Why We're Not a Tech Company

In a world where many tech companies, especially start-ups born out of an app, are instinctively celebrated as being forward-thinking, millennial-driven businesses ahead of their time, the desire to be seen as a “tech innovator” in some way, shape or form is tempting. However, is declaring yourself a tech company relevant to your business?

...it’s no longer considered “innovative” or “ground-breaking” to be built around tech, it’s almost expected.

As the world swiftly adapts to a more immersive and instant form of purchasing, as exampled by the rise of one-click buying and the gig economy, more and more businesses are becoming steeped in some form of tech, the hospitality industry included. In fact, the number of incorporated tech startups jumped up by 76% in 2017, with the UK's digital tech sector worth £184 billion in 2018. It’s no longer considered “innovative” or “ground-breaking” to be built around tech, it’s almost expected. As a company built around an intuitive app ourselves, we prefer to focus on what’s important.

Although we do pride ourselves in providing an app that holds the UK’s largest marketplace of temporary staff, we’re here to say that we’re not a tech company. In fact, we’re not even a recruitment company. We’re simply a company that connects trained, vetted workers (GIG Seekers) with employment providers (GIG Providers) - instantly. In 2019, this shouldn’t be considered innovative. It’s not even our selling point. Instead, we focus on how we can make that relationship between candidate and employer as seamless, relevant and as valuable as possible.

Our upcoming GIG Ambassador program will revolve around this career progression and help build meaningful long-term relationships...

It’s a process that’s aided through tech, but not restricted by it. We’re an end-to-end service that ensures employers get the ideal candidate, while workers get the ideal role. In a world so steeped in tech, many companies, especially within today's evolving recruitment industry, believe that people management simply is as important when you can click a button. Although our tech makes it easier for employers and workers, it doesn’t ignore the fundamental principles of any business – the relationship.

One simple way we’re steering away from being a tech company is by providing a dedicated team of account managers that are here for not only our clients, but also our workers. We’re here to encourage our workers and ensure they’re able to build formidable careers (if they want to). Our upcoming GIG Ambassador program will revolve around this career progression and help build meaningful, long-term relationships between workers and employers – whether it’s for temporary or full-time work.

...we’ll see more effective feedback, enhanced appraisals and meaningful two-way communication that makes workers and businesses more than just a number.

In addition to this, we’re tweaking our tech to focus less around, well, the tech. A new, all-inclusive GIG App will break down the barriers between worker and employment provider even further, allowing our Seekers and Providers to interact more readily. By doing so, we’ll see more effective feedback, enhanced appraisals and meaningful two-way communication that makes workers and businesses more than just a number.

By focusing on this important facet of our business, we’re able to suit workers to job roles more effectively, improve productivity, happiness, and ultimately raise the bar. So why would we want to be seen as a tech company? It’s not a fight for originality, it’s just focusing on what’s important.
